Epstein Becker & Green has hired attorney Harry Silver as a partner in its Washington office. Silver, gained six years of experience in the health care field from Patton Boggs. He specializes in the defense of health care providers in cases of fraud and abuse. Silver foresees this legal area getting very busy due to the new health care bill.

Winston & Strawn LLP has boosted its Hong Kong office with addition of four new attorneys. The firm hired Adrian Yip, a commercial litigation partner, who is joined by three associates: Cliff Mok, Philip Kwok and Genevieve Ku. Winston & Strawn has plans to grow its offices in Beijing and Shanghai as well.

Quarles & Brady LLP has launched an office in Tampa, Florida. This new addition makes the firm’s second Florida office, the first being in Naples. Quarles has been recruiting lateral attorneys from neighboring firms in Tampa, including DLA Piper. The attorney’s names have yet to be disclosed.

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney saw a decrease in revenue in 2009 by 2.9 percent. It dropped from $272.8 million to $264.9 million. The firm saw both profits per equity partner (PPP) as well as Revenue per lawyer (RPL) increase in 2009. PPP shot up to $590,000, an increase of 4.8 percent. RPL jumped 5.3 percent, from $565,000 to $595,000.

Foley & Lardner was hit hard by the recession, it would appear. Its gross revenue decreased by 8.8 percent to $667 million. Profits per partner declined by 7.9 percent, to $586,000. The following practice groups suffered the most: IP/IP Litigaiton, securities and white-collar litigation.

Ashurst has just made its first US lateral hire since it launched in the US last year. Attorney Margaret Sheehan joins the firm as a partner from Alston & Bird. Sheehan will practice in Ashurst’s financial services and products group. This is the first in what appears to be many desired lateral hires by Ashurst, who is currently focuses on expanding in Asia.

White & Case has lost yet another partner from its Palo Alto office: Jennifer L. Yokoyama. Yokoyama, who specializes in patent litigation, left the firm for Nike. She takes the position of Assistant General Counsel – IP Litigation. It would appear that White & Case must either close its Palo Alto office, after so many departures, or recruit and/or transfer partners to save it.

Six months after the Lovells/Hogan & Hartson merger, Lovells is to close its Chicago office. The office, consisting of seven partners, seems to have underperformed in the past few years. The firm is in the midst of discussing whether the Chicago partners will move to other offices.
