Linklaters’ Asia Head Takes In-House Job

Giles White, managing partner at Linklaters’ Asia office, is opting out of the firm and opting into an in-house position at Jardine Matheson. White has had a lengthy career with Linklaters for 21 years, 18 of which were spent as a partner. White plans to leave the firm at the end of April.

A&O Takes on Two From Cadwalader

Allen & Overy has struck lateral gold with the hire of two restructuring attorneys. Angela Somers and John Kibler both join from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and both join A&O’s New York office as special counsel. This is just the beginning. Kevin O’Shea, A&O’s NY restructuring head, plans to make his practice a determining factor in the firm’s growth.

Hunton & Williams Captures One From Akin Gump

Hunton & Williams has recruited Edward Fernandes from Akin Gump.  Fernades will continue to practice in Austin, but will also work out of the Houston office.  A major aim of his will be to grow Hunton’s litigation office, particularly in the Austin group. Fernades has much experience representing very large companies, such as Ernst & Young and Bank of America.

Patrick Egan Recruited to Start Office

Patrick Egan has had experience in planting seeds, aiding in the growth, and eventually watching a practice group flourish.  Three years ago, Egan joined Fox Rothschild to start the firm’s white-collar defense practice.  Now, Egan has been recruited by Wiggin & Dana to do the same with an entire office. Egan will start and lead the new Philadelphia office.

White & Case Joins Forces with Laracy Gall

White & Case and Hong Kong dispute resolution boutique Laracy Gall have joined together in preparation for the emanate wave of corporate bankruptcies. In the face of such an economic decline, banks have limited their lending to what companies may be able to pay back. In the Asia-Specific region, excluding Japan, new loans amount to $4 billion, much less than last year’s $32 billion around the same time. Laracy Gall has 12 litigators, all of whom will work with White & Case’s banking, capital markets and private equity practice groups.
