Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton plans to focus on growing its presence in Hong Kong, New York and London. The firm is famous for rarely making a lateral hire and it continues to be cautious about making such decisions. But, the firm’s finances fared better after the economic downfall than many other US firms. Its total revenue declined by $4 million to $965 million and its profit per equity partner remained the same.

Wiley Rein Makes IP Placement

Anthony Son has just joined Wiley Rein’s Washington office as a partner. Son left his position at Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz to join Wiley. Prior working at Connolly, he was a partner at Foley & Lardner. Son is the latest addition to Wiley Rein’s intellectual property group.

Epstein Becker Makes Health Care Partner Hire

Epstein Becker & Green has hired attorney Harry Silver as a partner in its Washington office. Silver, gained six years of experience in the health care field from Patton Boggs. He specializes in the defense of health care providers in cases of fraud and abuse. Silver foresees this legal area getting very busy due to the new health care bill.

Quarles & Brady has Launched in Tampa

Quarles & Brady LLP has launched an office in Tampa, Florida. This new addition makes the firm’s second Florida office, the first being in Naples. Quarles has been recruiting lateral attorneys from neighboring firms in Tampa, including DLA Piper. The attorney’s names have yet to be disclosed.

Ashurst Hires Partner in US

Ashurst has just made its first US lateral hire since it launched in the US last year. Attorney Margaret Sheehan joins the firm as a partner from Alston & Bird. Sheehan will practice in Ashurst’s financial services and products group. This is the first in what appears to be many desired lateral hires by Ashurst, who is currently focuses on expanding in Asia.

White & Case Loses ANOTHER PARTNER From Palo Alto

White & Case has lost yet another partner from its Palo Alto office: Jennifer L. Yokoyama. Yokoyama, who specializes in patent litigation, left the firm for Nike. She takes the position of Assistant General Counsel – IP Litigation. It would appear that White & Case must either close its Palo Alto office, after so many departures, or recruit and/or transfer partners to save it.
