Freshfields Advises China Unicom on US$1.95billion Acquisition of Unicom New Horizon

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited (“China Unicom”) on its proposed acquisition of 100% equity interest in Unicom New Horizon Telecommunications Company Limited (“Unicom New Horizon”) from China United Network Communications Group Company Limited through a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Unicom, for a total consideration of approximately RMB12.17 billion (approximately US$1.95 billion).

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic office of Squire Sanders acted as local counsel for J. P. Morgan Securities LLC as sole initial purchaser in the successful issuance by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI, S.A. (“Aerodom”) of US$550 million of 9.250% Senior Secured Notes due 2019, with Bank of New York Mellon as Trustee. This is the largest international bond offering, at the lowest interest rate, by a private corporation in the history of the Dominican Republic. Partner Pedro O. Gamundi, Senior Associate Rhina M. Martinez and Associate Leyla Hernandez handled this transaction on behalf of the firm.

Weil Advises Providence Equity in Connection with YES Network – News Corp. Transaction

Weil advised Providence Equity Partners, a minority partner in Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network (YES), in News Corporation’s acquisition of a 49 percent stake in YES. YES is a New York City-based regional cable television channel that broadcasts sports events, including New York Yankees baseball games and Brooklyn Nets basketball games. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2012.

Herbert Smith Freehills Advises on China Taiping Captial’s US$300m Bond Issuance

Herbert Smith Freehills has recently advised BOCI Asia Limited, Citigroup Global Markets Limited and J.P. Morgan Securities plc as the Joint Lead Managers on the issuance of US$300 million 4.125% guaranteed notes due 2022 by China Taiping Capital Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Taiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited, an insurance conglomerate incorporated and headquartered in Hong Kong. The transaction closed on 21 November 2012.
