Today, Pillsbury welcomed Thomas A. Zimmer to the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in the firm’s Finance group. Zimmer, formerly a partner with Holland & Knight, will serve as co-leader of Pillsbury’s transportation finance team along with partner Mark Lessard in New York. He was previously Chair of Holland & Knight’s Finance group and was the Deputy Section Leader of its Business Law Section.

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that corporate partner Dr. Philipp Grzimek will join the Firm’s Frankfurt Office, and the Düsseldorf Office will welcome Intellectual Property Practicepartner Dr. Jakob Guhn. Both Dr. Grzimek (43), who comes to the Firm from Hogan Lovells, and Dr. Guhn (37), who comes to the Firm from Field Fisher Waterhouse, will arrive on May 1. International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that R.J. Zayed has joined the Intellectual Property Litigation group in the firm’s Minneapolis office as a partner. Zayed’s practice emphasizes patent and trade secret litigation involving a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, investment models and nutritional supplements, among many others. He also is active in defending white collar crime cases, and is currently the court-appointed receiver in the SEC v. Cook and SEC v. Beckman fraud cases pending in United States District Court. As a former Assistant United States Attorney, Zayed tried many high profile cases including white collar fraud and environmental crimes.

The Tokyo office of the Firm recently represented the initial purchasers, led by Nomura Securities International, Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Mizuho Securities USA Inc. and Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC in an offering of $1,400,000,000 5.325% Step-up Callable Subordinated Notes due 2073 by Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. The notes were sold to international investors outside of Japan in reliance on Rule 144A and Regulation S. The notes are listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
