Dorsey Adds Patent Practice in Salt Lake City Office with Experienced IP Partner Marcus Simon

International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Marcus S. Simon has joined the Firm’s Patent group as a partner, establishing a patent practice in the Firm’s Salt Lake City office. Mr. Simon’s practice encompasses many aspects of patent work, including patent portfolio development and management, infringement and validity risk analysis, as well as licensing and transactional IP due diligence. His technical expertise includes materials science, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, chemistry, electronics and photonics. Mr. Simon has broad experience serving clients engaged in development and manufacture of superabrasive and superhard materials used in cutting tools and bearings, oil and gas exploration drilling systems, implantable medical devices (such as stents and embolic filters), alloys for implantable medical devices (superelastic and shape-memory alloys), fiber optics, lasers and micro-electro-mechanical systems. He also has experience in trademark matters.

Davis Polk – Rio Tinto $3 Billion Notes Offering

Davis Polk advised BNP Paribas Securities Corp., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC, Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC and RBS Securities Inc. as joint bookrunners on an SEC-registered offering by Rio Tinto Finance (USA) plc of $3 billion aggregate principal amount of notes guaranteed by Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited. The offering consisted of $1 billion principal amount of 1.375% notes due 2016, $1.25 billion principal amount of 2.250% notes due 2018, $250 million principal amount of floating-rate notes due 2015 and $500 million principal amount of floating-rate notes due 2016.

Morgan Securities LLC and Barclays Capital Inc., in connection with a registered public offering of 9,775,000 shares of common stock of Bright Horizons Family Solutions Inc. (“Bright Horizons”), a portfolio company of Bain Capital Partners, LLC. A total of approximately $323.1 million in proceeds was raised in the offering. Affiliates of Bain Capital Partners, LLC and certain other selling stockholders received all of the gross proceeds from the offering.
