Hunton & Williams LLP Augments Competition Practice, Adds Former Department of Justice Official Jamillia P. Ferris as Partner

The US Department of Justice’s Jamillia P. Ferris has joined Hunton & Williams LLP as a partner in its antitrust and competition practice group. Ferris comes to the firm from the Antitrust Division at the DOJ, where she served as Chief of Staff and Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General. In that capacity she oversaw significant enforcement matters and competition policy matters, including matters involving the high tech, health insurance, and financial services industries. Ferris also was the Antitrust Division’s decision-maker on important matters involving the aerospace and the electronic book industries. As Chief of Staff, Ferris managed budget and personnel issues. She was actively involved with domestic and international enforcement agencies on antitrust policy and enforcement matters, including the Federal Trade Commission and the European Commission. Ferris will be based in the firm’s Washington office.

Freshfields Advises Kodak Limited on Restructuring to Settle Pensions Liabilities in Excess of US$2.8bn

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised Kodak Limited on a restructuring deal to settle its liabilities in relation to its UK defined benefit pension scheme, the Kodak Pension Plan (KPP), thereby supporting Kodak Limited’s parent company, Eastman Kodak Company (EKC), in successfully emerging from Chapter 11.

Akin Gump Welcomes DOJ Veteran Chuck Connolly

Charles F. “Chuck” Connolly, most recently the chief of the Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Unit in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as a partner in its litigation practice in Washington, D.C.  Since 2002, Mr. Connolly has served in several capacities within the Department of Justice (DOJ), including as a counselor to the attorney general and an assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting complex fraud cases for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia.  Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Connolly practiced with a large, international law firm.

Duane Morris & Selvam Opens Office in Myanmar, Expanding Asian Presence

Duane Morris & Selvam LLP, the Singapore-based joint venture between Duane Morris LLP and Singapore’s Selvam LLC, announced today that it has established an office in Yangon, Myanmar. The firm will serve international and domestic clients through two closely integrated entities: Duane Morris & Selvam (Myanmar) and Selvam & Partners. Attorneys will serve clients on investment and business matters, including all aspects of tax, licensing, regulatory, market entry, reporting requirements and U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and UK Bribery Act issues. It is the first launch in the country by a U.S.-based law firm.

Shearman & Sterling Advises on Huntington Bancshares’s $400 Million Notes Offering and $350 Million Notes Offering by The Huntington National Bank

Shearman & Sterling represented Goldman, Sachs & Co., Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated and The Huntington Investment Company as the joint bookrunning managers in connection with a registered offering by Huntington Bancshares Incorporated of $400 million aggregate principal amount of its 2.60% Senior Notes due 2018. Shearman & Sterling also represented the underwriters in connection with a concurrent 3(a)(2) offering by The Huntington National Bank, a subsidiary of Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, of $350 million aggregate principal amount of its 1.35% Senior Notes due 2016. The proceeds from the offerings will be used for general corporate purposes.
