Morrison & Foerster Adds Accomplished Corporate Finance Partner Scott Lesmes in Washington, D.C.

Morrison & Foerster announced today that Scott Lesmes has joined the firm’s Corporate Finance practice as a partner in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lesmes formerly served as chief legal officer for Allied Capital Corporation and as deputy general counsel for Fannie Mae. He follows the recent arrival of SEC veteran and highly respected securities lawyer Martin Dunn, who formerly served as deputy director and acting director of the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance and joined the firm earlier this month. Both lawyers joined Morrison & Foerster from the Washington, D.C. office of O’Melveny & Myers where they worked closely together.

Simpson Thacher Represents The Carlyle Group in Raising $13 Billion Buyout Fund

Simpson Thacher represented The Carlyle Group (“Carlyle”) in the establishment of its sixth fund dedicated to buyouts and other private equity investments in the United States, Carlyle Partners VI, L.P. (“CP VI”). Carlyle has announced that CP VI raised $13 billion of total commitments from 269 investors from 43 countries.

Former West Virginia State Director Kelley Goes joins Jackson Kelly PLLC

Kelley M. Goes recently joined Jackson Kelly PLLC as a Member in the Firm’s Charleston, West Virginia, office. Prior to joining the Firm, Goes served as U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III’s state director, overseeing his West Virginia offices and operations.  She previously served as the first woman to be named as Secretary of Commerce in West Virginia and as the Executive Director of the West Virginia Development Office.

Mayer Brown JSM Advises ICBC (Asia) on First Public Takeover in Germany by a Chinese State Owned Enterprise

Mayer Brown JSM today announced that it has advised Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited (ICBC (Asia)) in relation to its financing of three bidders in making a joint public takeover offer – together with an indirect subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Beijing, China (AVIC), a PRC stated-owned company – for the shares of Frankfurt listed KHD Humboldt Wedag International AG, a German industrial-plant builder. The three separate term loan facilities have a total aggregate amount of EUR197.8 million.
