Tiaan De Wit Joins White & Case as a Partner in Johannesburg

Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice with the addition of Tiaan De Wit as a partner in Johannesburg. Tiaan joins White & Case from ENSafrica, where he was a director (the ENSafrica equivalent to partner).

“M&A activity in Africa rebounded following the pandemic and continues to be buoyant in key industries such as energy, mining, utilities, financial services and telecommunications, media and technology,” said White & Case partner John Reiss, Head of the Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. “The addition of Tiaan in our Johannesburg office will support the growth of our M&A practice in this key region and provide further opportunities for collaboration across EMEA on out-bound Africa M&A transactions.”

Tiaan advises on public and private M&A, equity capital market transactions and major corporate actions, including initial public offerings, unbundlings, rights offers, other capital raisings, schemes of arrangement, mandatory and voluntary offers and listings and delistings on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Cape Town Stock Exchange and other global stock exchanges. He has experience advising clients in the private equity, gambling, hospitality, real estate, agri-business, retail, infrastructure and financial services industries, amongst others.

“Tiaan is an adept corporate lawyer with significant experience advising listed companies in South Africa on their international transactions,” said White & Case partner Gary Felthun. “I look forward to working with him alongside our other talented corporate and finance lawyers to continue to drive White & Case as one of the leading international firms in South Africa.”

Partner Oliver Brettle, a member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, said: “Our M&A and finance practices in Johannesburg have grown significantly since the arrival of M&A partner Gary Felthun from ENSafrica in 2018 through further lateral additions and promotions. This includes the addition of partners Lindani Mthembu, Lionel Shawe and Sibusiso Zungu from Allen & Overy in 2021 and the promotion to partner of Craig Atkinson at the start of 2020, as well as two local partner promotions and the addition of seven local partners. This targeted growth demonstrates our commitment to Johannesburg as a strategically important office that works in close collaboration with our lawyers across the world to support our global clients.”
