Leading international law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has added three leading energy industry partners to its transactions practice across its London and Houston offices. John C. LaMaster and Marc Hammerson have joined the firm in London, and Steven Otillar has joined the firm in Houston. All three partners focus on cross-border energy transactions.

As part of Andrews Kurth’s long tradition in Latin American energy, Andrews Kurth LLP (Andrews Kurth) served as primary development counsel and primary finance counsel to international energy companies, AEI and Pattern Energy Group LP(Pattern), for the $245 million development and financing of Parque Eólico El Arrayán SpA’s 115 MW wind power project. The project, which is located on the Pacific ocean about 250 miles northeast of Santiago, is jointly owned by AEI, Pattern and Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA).

Latham & Watkins Advises ETP on US$5.3 Billion Sunoco Acquisition

Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. (NYSE: ETP) and Sunoco, Inc. (NYSE: SUN) have announced that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement whereby ETP will acquire Sunoco in a unit and cash transaction valued at US$50.13 per share, or a total consideration of approximately US$5.3 billion, based on ETP’s closing price on April 27, 2012. As detailed in the company news release, this combination will create one of the largest and most diversified energy partnerships in the country by expanding ETP’s geographic footprint and strengthening its presence in the transportation, terminalling and logistics of crude oil, NGLs and refined products.

Latham & Watkins Advises Suburban in Inergy Retail Propane Acquisition

Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. (NYSE: SPH), has announced a definitive agreement with Inergy, L.P., Inergy GP, LLC and Inergy Sales & Service, Inc.  to acquire the sole membership interest in and to Inergy Propane, LLC, now owned by Inergy, including certain wholly owned subsidiaries of Inergy Propane, LLC, and the assets of Inergy Sales.  Suburban is acquiring Inergy Propane for total consideration of approximately US$1.8 billion in stock and cash, as detailed in the company press release below.
