Leading Labor & Employment Partner Joins Baker Botts’ Houston Office

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Scott Nelson has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department in Houston. He will lead the Department’s Labor and Employment practice. He joins the firm from Hunton Andrews Kurth.

Nelson advises and defends many of America’s top companies on labor and employment issues. He has over 25 years of experience and has had tremendous success with high-profile domestic and international employment matters, as well as complex employment and commercial litigation.

Among his more notable cases, Nelson successfully defended multinational chemical companies in one of the largest employee trade secrets cases to go to a jury trial, a case in which plaintiffs sought $800 million through economic espionage-type trade secrets claims. He also achieved a total bench trial victory for a multinational mining and chemical company in a large ERISA class action in which plaintiffs sought in excess of $200 million. Nelson has also handled employment arbitrations, including most recently having secured a multi-million dollar recovery for an employer seeking to claw back signing bonuses from energy traders.

“Scott’s stellar credentials, leadership skills, courtroom experience, market knowledge, business development acumen and strong client list make him a perfect complement to the Baker Botts team,” said Danny David, Managing Partner. “We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

“Scott is a tremendous hire for us,” said Bridget Moore, Chair of the Litigation Department. “Not only can he advise and litigate on a broad range of labor and employment issues, Scott also has sophisticated employee trade secret, ERISA litigation and international labor and employment expertise.”

“Quality and client service have always been pillars of my practice,” said Scott Nelson. “I am honored and excited to join Baker Botts, where exceptional quality and client service are paramount.”

Nelson is recognized as a leader in Labor & Employment in Texas in Chambers USA. He has been recommended in Labor & Employment Disputes Defense (including collective actions) in The Legal 500 US. He is also listed as a Labor & Employment Star in Texas in Benchmark Litigation, among other accolades.

He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Creighton University School of Law in 1996, where he was Assistant Editor of the Creighton Law Review. In 1993, he received his B.S.B.A. in Finance from Creighton University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
