Baker Botts Welcomes Prominent Corporate Partner in Houston

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Doug Getten has joined the Houston office as a Capital Markets partner in the Corporate Department. Getten joins Baker Botts from Paul Hastings, where he was the Chairman of the Houston Corporate Department, Chair of Talent Acquisition for the Houston office, and a partner in both the Securities and Capital Markets practice and the M&A practice.

He has extensive knowledge and experience with exploration and production companies, upstream and midstream businesses as well as the oil field services sector. He focuses on corporate finance and securities law matters, including public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and other investment activities.

“Doug is a highly regarded capital markets partner who will help us maintain our strong momentum in this transactional area, particularly in the energy industry,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “His addition will add even more scale to the underwriter side of our capital markets practice, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the firm.”

Getten’s arrival at Baker Botts comes on the heels of those of lateral partners David Eastlake and Julie Mayo, who joined the firm’s Houston office in February.

“Doug is a well-known corporate lawyer in Houston who has worked opposite many of our own partners over the years. The client skills and legal acumen he brings to the table are extremely impressive,” said Mike Bengtson, Corporate Department Chair of Baker Botts. “He will no doubt hit the ground running.”

“Baker Botts is the premier law firm in the energy sector and provides an ideal multidisciplinary platform for my practice,” Getten said. “I have worked with many Baker Botts lawyers over the years and am excited to become a member of their team.”

The Baker Botts Capital Markets team has extensive experience handling virtually every type of debt and equity capital markets transaction. Issuers, investment banks and private equity sponsors of all sizes across a range of industries rely on Baker Botts’ capital markets team to help them raise capital through a broad array of securities products, from the standard to the most innovative and complex.
