Powers & Frost Joins National Law Firm Wilson Elser

National law firm Wilson Elser is pleased to announce that Houston law firm Powers & Frost, LLP has joined the Am Law 100 firm, nearly doubling the number of attorneys in its Houston office.

Sharla J. Frost, one of the founding partners of Powers & Frost, has been named the new regional managing partner of the newly combined office.

On January 1, 2013, eight Powers & Frost attorneys and staff started working under the Wilson Elser moniker, creating a litigation powerhouse in Texas that now includes 20 attorneys in Houston and 35 in Dallas.

“We would like to welcome Powers & Frost attorneys, staff and clients to Wilson Elser,” said Daniel J. McMahon, Wilson Elser chairman. “With like practices and a national reach, the synergies that will be realized will undoubtedly benefit our clients and bolster the firm’s presence in Houston, and throughout Texas and the South.”

“I and the entire Houston office are looking forward to the next chapter and our continued growth in this region,” said Marty Schexnayder, a partner in the Houston office.

Many of the Powers & Frost attorneys are licensed in multiple jurisdictions outside of Texas, expanding Wilson Elser’s geographic footprint to Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

“With the growth of our Houston office and the January 1 opening of our first Milwaukee office, Wilson Elser will not only provide clients greater geographic coverage but a cadre of truly accomplished, experienced attorneys who understand how to best manage cases for the most advantageous, cost-effective outcomes,” Mr. McMahon added.

In addition to Ms. Frost, below is a list of Powers & Frost attorneys who have joined Wilson Elser:

  • James Powers – Of Counsel
  • Gwendolyn Frost – Of Counsel
  • Shawn Golden – Of Counsel
  • Clive Markland – Of Counsel
  • Laura Rahman – Of Counsel
  • Chandria Jackson – Associate
  • Michelle Scheiffele – Associate

“This is an exciting time for Powers & Frost,” shared Ms. Frost, who founded Powers & Frost 18 years ago. “Joining Wilson Elser allows us to augment our thriving national practice with an established, successful national platform.”

“I couldn’t have picked a better firm to join,” added Ms. Frost. “Both Wilson Elser and Powers & Frost are litigation firms with trial attorneys who don’t cower from the courtroom. We also share practice areas – commercial litigation, employment law, class action and national trial counsel – and are equally committed to diversity and providing pro bono counsel to those who are less fortunate.”

Until new office space that can accommodate the larger headcount is secured, all attorneys will continue working from their current locations.
