Morgan Lewis Expands in Asia with New Partners in Hong Kong and Singapore

Morgan Lewis today welcomes Karun Cariappa, a corporate partner resident in Singapore, and Helen Fok, an investment management partner resident in Hong Kong. They both join from Simmons & Simmons.

Karun has an extensive representation of clients across Asia, particularly in India. He was co-leader of the India practice at his previous firm. Helen advises financial institutions on regulatory conduct matters under the Securities and Futures Ordinance and the Banking Ordinance, including licensing applications and conflicts of interests.

“I am excited to welcome Karun and Helen to Morgan Lewis. They will provide valuable assistance to our clients as they pursue their business interests throughout India and Asia,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “This region is a major priority for our firm and having Karun and Helen on board deepens our capabilities to serve clients in this thriving part of the world.”

Morgan Lewis continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to its Asia practice, which has gone from strength to strength in recent years. In 2015, following its combination with The Stamford Law Firm, the firm established a strong presence in Singapore serving clients across the region. In 2017, Morgan Lewis gained formal approval from The Law Society of Hong Kong to form an association with Luk & Partners, solidifying the firm’s offering to clients in Greater China and across Asia more broadly.

“Karun is an ideal addition to our cross-border transactional team in Singapore,” said Suet-Fern Lee, a partner in Singapore and chair of the firm’s International Leadership Team. “He deepens our capabilities to serve companies throughout Asia, especially those with interests in India.”

“Helen’s arrival will further strengthen our capabilities in the region,” said Louis Singer, leader of Morgan Lewis’s investment management practice. “Conduct of business and compliance remain key considerations for financial institutions, and Helen’s experience in this area will be of great value to our clients in Hong Kong and throughout Asia.”
