Financial Restructuring Partner Alastair Goldrein Joins Dechert’s London Office

Dechert LLP continues to grow its leading global financial restructuring group with the addition of partner Alastair Goldrein, previously at Shearman & Sterling LLP,  to its London office. Mr. Goldrein is the group’s second significant hire in London this month following the appointment of partner Solomon J. Noh.

Mr. Goldrein advises creditors and debtors, as well as sponsors, in a broad range of complex international restructurings and insolvencies. He also has significant experience advising on distressed investments and general finance work. Mr. Goldrein handles English law restructuring documents for clients in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, China and Hong Kong.

Allan Brilliant, co-chair of Dechert’s financial restructuring group, commented, “We are very pleased to welcome Alastair to the firm. His deep knowledge of UK insolvency law and schemes of arrangement will enhance our financial restructuring offering to clients globally.”

Gus Black, chair of Dechert’s London Management Committee and global co-chair of Dechert’s financial services group, commented, “We are very pleased to welcome Alastair, who will further expand and enhance our restructuring capability in London.”

Dechert’s financial restructuring practice is highly respected around the world for handling high-profile, complex cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters, for its innovative deal structuring, and for its court victories on behalf of clients in London, the U.S. and other international jurisdictions. In a recent landmark UK case between creditor Franklin Templeton Investment Management and the International Bank of Azerbaijan, Dechert succeeded in upholding a fundamental principle of English law that protects creditors against foreign debt proceedings. For its work on the matter, Dechert was named the U.K.’s “Insolvency and Restructuring Litigation Team of the Year” at Legal Week’s Commercial Litigation & Arbitration Awards 2019.

Dechert is recognized by Global Restructuring Review as having one of the 30 leading financial restructuring groups in the world and also by The Legal 500 and Chambers Partners as one of the leading cross-border restructuring and insolvency practices. In addition, the group’s work on specific restructurings has recently earned the global team “Deal of the Year” awards from GRR Awards, Latin Finance, IFLR Americas Awards and M&A Advisor amongst others.
