DLA Piper Appoints Leading Real Estate Partner in Hong Kong

DLA Piper today announces the appointment of Ed Sheremeta to the role of partner with the firm’s Real Estate practice in Hong Kong. Ed joins from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom where he was the Head of the Asia Real Estate group. Ed also served for a period as Vice President on the commercial real estate lending team at Morgan Stanley Japan in Tokyo.

Ed specialises in real estate investment both in the equity and finance space, advising on a variety of real estate matters ranging from acquisitions and dispositions, institutional investments, limited recourse and secured financings, REITs, asset and property management, leasing and sale-leasebacks, to the establishment of real estate joint ventures, co-investment platforms, restructurings, non-performing loan portfolio management and general transaction structuring.

Ed brings with him an impressive track record advising major investment banks and real estate funds, along with an intricate knowledge of the Asia real estate market, having spent considerable time in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong. He is acknowledged as a leading lawyer in the area of Real Estate by Chambers Asia Pacific (2013) and is recognised by clients for being ‘knowledgeable and responsive’, and providing ‘great client advice and counsel: he is always approachable and easy to reach, despite being in high demand’ (Asia Pacific Legal 500, 2012).

Olaf Schmidt, partner and International Head of Real Estate said: “Asia is increasing in prominence in the global property markets as it continues to attract high levels of investor interest. Real Estate is a key focus for DLA Piper and Ed’s experience and skills will be a great asset to our existing offering in Asia. His appointment represents an exciting development for our business and underlines our commitment to the real estate sector and the broader Asia-Pacific region”.

Susheela Rivers, partner and Head of Real Estate for Asia-Pacific added: “I am so pleased to welcome Ed to the team. This is a great time to be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment such as Hong Kong, and I know Ed’s extensive experience and outstanding commitment to client service will enable us to further bolster DLA Piper’s position as a key player in the area of real estate both in Asia and internationally.”
