A Chinese law firm has tapped an experienced litigation partner in Asia legal jobs to direct the opening of the its new Hong Kong law office.

A Chinese law firm has tapped an experienced litigation partner in Asia legal jobs to direct the opening of the its new Hong Kong law office, according to a published report.

Fangda Partners hired Peter Yuen from the Hong Kong offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he had been since 1996. In 2007, he was elevated to partner. He specializes in dispute resolution, including commercial and Chinese-related business. His practice also delves into investigations, regulatory and corporate compliance, banking, IP and litigation for professional negligence.

On top of holding qualifications for Hong Kong, Yuen is dually qualified in England and Wales. He represents clients before Hong Kong’s high court and elsewhere in China.

The law firm he is joining is renowned for its work with cross-border corporate transactions, especially among capital markets and private equity investment into China. The firm also is known for its strengths with litigation and arbitration as 12 of 37 partners emphasize resolving disputes. Fangda is involved as an advisor regarding the Chinese trademark case of retired basketball superstar Michael Jordan.
