Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati Opens Hong Kong Office

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, is pleased to announce that it has opened an office in Hong Kong.

“China is an incredibly vibrant market—one that we have been focused on and investing in for many years,” said CEO Steve Bochner. “Given Hong Kong’s position as a leading global financial center and the preferred overseas capital market for many Chinese enterprises, it is the logical place for us to open our second office in China. There are also considerable synergies between Hong Kong and the work we already are doing in China. We are extremely pleased to have found the right team and leadership to anchor our Hong Kong office, and look forward to continuing to build our presence in the Greater China region.”

“This is a very exciting time to be in China,” said Carmen Chang, who will oversee the firm’s Hong Kong office as Senior Resident Partner. “World-class companies continue to form, entrepreneurialism is on the rise, and the economy is exceptionally strong. In the past several years, we have been fortunate enough to work with many outstanding, talented clients, and the establishment of a Hong Kong office will allow us to serve them even more effectively and significantly grow our China practice.”

The Hong Kong team will be led by Weiheng Chen, who co-heads the firm’s China practice along with Carmen Chang. He recently joined the firm from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley, and McCloy and has particular expertise in private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets. The Hong Kong team will work closely with the firm’s attorneys in Shanghai and the U.S. The China practice represents clients in a variety of legal matters in the Greater China region and the U.S., including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investments, capital markets, joint venture and other forms of foreign investments, branch operations, spin-offs, and intellectual property and employment benefits counseling. The practice performs the corporate and securities work for many notable U.S.- or Hong Kong-listed public companies with a significant Chinese component to their management and operations, including Ambow Education Holdings, Marvell Technology Group, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), Spreadtrum Communications, Tencent Holdings, and UT Starcom. In addition, the China team frequently collaborates with the firm’s U.S.-based litigation department to represent clients headquartered in China in patent, securities, employment, and other litigation and arbitration matters.

The new office is located at Suite 504, Two Exchange Square, 8 Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong. The main office phone number is +852 2168 0700, and the fax is +852 2168 0701.
