Eversheds Strengthens Real Estate Practice in Germany

Eversheds Sutherland has further enhanced its real estate practice in Germany with the arrival of two real estate lawyers. Dr Stefanie Fuerst joins as a lateral partner hire from Latham & Watkins. She will be based in the Hamburg office from 1 December 2017. Dr. Fuerst is one of the leading transactional real estate lawyers in Germany. She advises international and German investors on complex domestic and cross-border transactions. She also specialises in investment law issues and real estate financing.

Annette Griesbach recently joined the Eversheds Sutherland Hamburg office as Counsel. Annette focuses on real estate asset transactions including due diligence, and negotiation of sale and purchase agreements. She has expertise in commercial lease law relating to transactional matters. Her specialist areas also include brokerage law and property management agreements.

Driven by client demand and a commitment to expand into one of Europe’s most vibrant economies, these appointments help position Eversheds Sutherland as a full-service real estate practice in Germany. The team, which includes 30 lawyers across four offices and has a strong local presence in Germany, provides clients with partner-led advice across the lifecycle of real estate assets.

David Watkins, Co-Global Head of Real Estate, commented:

“It has been an exciting year of significant growth for the real estate practice group. Our expansion in Germany – Europe’s largest economy – has been key to our strategy of delivering a full-service team to meet our clients’ needs. We welcome Stefanie and Annette, two highly respected and talented lawyers, to the team.”

The German real estate market remains strong with activity predominantly driven by foreign investments. With demand for real estate in Germany on the increase, high transaction volume is expected to continue into 2018.

Gerhard Molt, Head of German real estate, said:

“Germany’s commercial real estate market is one of the most buoyant in Europe. The country’s ongoing economic and regulatory strength continues to attract domestic and international investors. Stefanie and Annette are two timely and important additions to the team. Their expertise in transactional matters will further strengthen our real estate practice.”

Matthias Heisse, Managing Partner Germany, stated:

“We are delighted to welcome Stefanie and Annette to the firm. Our German practice is committed to a strategy of sustained profitable growth and to build a full-service offering across our four German offices in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Munich. We are looking forward to further develop our high-quality offering in Germany, which is a key market in Europe, with existing opportunities in our global platform.”

Since its merger with Heisse Kursawe Eversheds (2015), Eversheds Sutherland Germany is a leading player in the German legal market with 115 lawyers, tax advisors and notaries across four key jurisdictions. The team advise regional, national and international clients. Earlier this year an office in Düsseldorf opened following the acquisition of Grooterhorst & Partners, a leading real estate and insurance law firm. In addition to its head office in Munich, Eversheds Sutherland also has offices in Berlin and Hamburg.
