Dinsmore & Shohl LLP continues to build its Chicago office, adding Partner John F. Costello from Locke Lord LLP. Costello will practice out of the firm’s Corporate Department.
Costello’s practice focuses on federal and state regulatory compliance. He advises clients on financial institution regulations, telemarketing and consumer outreach issues and data management. Serving on the American Bar Association’s Identity Management Legal Task Force, Costello is at the forefront of data privacy legal issues and working to create guidelines that proactively protect personal information. He frequently writes and speaks on this topic.
Costello draws upon his experience as a former regulator in the Illinois Attorney General’s office when handling investigations by state administrative agencies and State Attorneys General. He also works closely with the National Association of Attorneys General.
“John is a great addition as he adds depth to our corporate transactional group with his extensive regulatory and compliance practice,” said Robert “Bobby” Lucas, Chicago Office Managing Partner. “John shares the entrepreneurial spirit that drives this office, so I see him fitting in very well.”
In 18 months since Dinsmore moved to Chicago, 16 attorneys have joined the firm. To accommodate the rapid growth, the office moved to a new downtown location that tripled its space to allow for lateral hires, like John.
“I was ready to make a change, and Dinsmore was on my radar because of its activity in the Chicago market. In reviewing the options, I realized there was no match in terms of the platform that Dinsmore offers, and I’m looking forward to leveraging it to serve my clients,” said Costello.
Costello earned his J.D. from John Marshall Law School, where he serves as an adjunct professor, and received his B.S. from Quincy University.
