Dalton Odendaal Joins Harbottle & Lewis from LOCOG and the BOA

Harbottle & Lewis is delighted to announce that Dalton Odendaal has re-joined the firm as a Partner. For the last six years Dalton has been working on the Olympic Games with LOCOG and the BOA.

Dalton worked at LOCOG for five years (from 2007 to 2012) where he was the Head of Legal: Commercial. In this role Dalton advised on the commercial exploitation of the rights owned by LOCOG including sponsorship, licensing, ticketing and broadcasting. He was in charge of a team that included operational, finance, tax, legal and procurement personnel.

In the year leading up to the Games and until the end of 2012 he also worked for the BOA where he was Director of Business Development responsible for securing sponsorship and licensing deals for the 2013-2016 quad.

Dalton’s commercial expertise further strengthens the Sports and Sponsorship team, which is led by Bob Mitchell, who in 2011 was named as the most influential lawyer in the sports industry by Sports Business International magazine.

Glen Atchison, Managing Partner, said: “The commercial experience Dalton brings with him from his time at LOCOG and the BOA adds a dimension to our existing practice, and in particular strengthens the practical advice and expertise we can provide to our brands and other clients. Dalton’s in-depth knowledge of the sports and sponsorship industries will also further enhance our market leading offering in these areas.”
