Freshfields Advises MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA on Its US$1.929 Billion Sale of 35 per cent. of Terminal Investment Limited SA

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, the number two global container shipping line, on its sale of 35 percent of Terminal Investment Limited SA (“TIL”) to Global Infrastructure Partners and a group of its LP co-investors. The consideration is US$1.929 billion, including certain payments contingent on TIL’s future performance.

TIL has, or is in the process of acquiring, controlling or joint-controlling interests in 30 container terminals globally serving most of the world’s major trade routes and located in North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The Freshfields team was led by corporate partners Martin Nelson-Jones and Andrew Hutchings and senior associate Andrew Matthews.

This deal highlights the firm’s credentials in the infrastructure and transport sector and expertise in ports and shipping in particular. For example, Freshfields has previously advised Associated British Ports, the largest ports group in the UK, on a £2.36bn issuance of new debt.
