Mayer Brown Expands Real Estate Practice with Addition of Brian Davis as Partner in Chicago

Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that Brian Davis has joined the firm in Chicago as a partner in the Real Estate practice. Previously, he was a partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis.

“Brian has an impressive track record of representing institutional real estate equity investors on a wide range of matters, particularly distressed debt and equity transactions, asset acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, development and structured finance,” said Jeff Usow, a Chicago partner and co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Real Estate practice. “His extensive experience will further enhance the firm’s ability to assist clients on real estate aspects of complex transactions in Chicago and around the world.”

Mr. Davis focuses his broad-based real estate practice on providing counsel to equity investors and corporate users of real estate in all facets of the real estate investment lifecycle. He is adept at handling any real estate asset class, with particular emphasis in the areas of hospitality, retail, office and industrial. Mr. Davis has extensive experience in distressed debt and equity transactions, including restructuring CMBS loans, acquiring distressed debt, and navigating complex capital stacks with the objective of maximizing value in distressed real estate. He has developed and employed innovative structures for build-to-suit industrial developments that capitalize on the respective strengths of each stakeholder in the transaction. In addition, Mr. Davis has structured and restructured complex sale-leaseback, leverage lease and synthetic lease arrangements and has lectured and written in the areas of distressed real estate.

Mr. Davis earned a JD magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and received a BUPD cum laude in urban planning and development from the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University.
