The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Sumesh Sawhney has joined the Firm’s London Office in a further expansion of its India focus. Mr. Sawhney comes to Jones Day from Clifford Chance, where he had been co-head of its India corporate practice.
“Sumesh brings with him years of experience in Indian cross-border M&A and related corporate matters, said John Phillips, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s London Office. “He is an important addition to our growing representation of European and U.S. companies investing in India’s fast-growing economy.”
Mr. Sawhney’s practice has concentrated on India related mergers and acquisitions, formation of joint ventures, and cross-border investment. Among other clients, he has advised Bayer AG, John Deere, Maxis Communications, the SUN Group of the U.K., Volvo Corporation, and the Omzest Group in large and complex cross-border transactions.

Mr. Sawhney obtained his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the Punjab University in Chandigarh. He is admitted to practice as a solicitor in England & Wales and in India. In a career spanning more than two decades, he worked as in-house counsel at two well-known Indian companies and then became a partner at one of India’s leading law firms before joining Clifford Chance London in 2006.
