Prior to joining the firm, Javier spent 12 years in the real estate department at Garrigues, advising on some of the largest transactions in the Spanish market. He had also worked in the legal departments of major international and local companies, including IBM and Grupo Flex. In addition to his extensive experience in the legal sector, Javier is also teaching a number of master courses in universities and academic institutions as a professor.
Álvaro Sainz and Miguel Riaño commented: “The hire of Javier is very significant to the development of the Madrid office, particularly for the real estate practice. It is very good news for our clients and we are delighted to welcome Javier to a team of which we are extremely proud.”
Javier added: “It is incredible to join this top-tier international law firm and its real estate practice. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to advise on highly complex transactions and I hope to contribute my knowledge and experience to this team of excellent professionals and, above all, people.”
Herbert Smith Freehills’ Madrid office has developed a strong reputation for handling complex and innovative transactions, particularly for the IBEX35 companies, since its launch in 2009. This hire follows the recruitment of Manuel Rivero to join the office’s dispute resolution team in May 2012.
