Olswang Strengthens South East Asian Offering with New Corporate Partner

International technology, media and telecoms law firm Olswang has boosted its offering in the Asian market with the arrival of Azlinda Ariffin-Boromand, who joins the Corporate team as a partner from Fasken Martineau LLP, where she was co-leader of the South East Asia practice.

Recognised by Chambers Global (2012) both as a Malaysian ‘Expert Based Abroad’ within the field of ‘Banking & Finance: Capital Markets’, and as a UK ‘Foreign Expert’ within the field of ‘Capital Markets: Equity’, Azlinda was also recognised in Legal500 (2012) under Flotations: small & midcap for her “strong connections in Southeast Asia”. Joining the firm on 4 March, Azlinda will continue to be based in London, but will also work closely with Olswang’s Singapore team, focusing on outbound business from Asian markets, and particularly from Malaysia. Leveraging Olswang’s international network and sector expertise, Azlinda will build on her experience in advising a range of companies in the Asia Pacific region on equity fundraisings and mergers & acquisitions involving a number of Malaysian companies and Malaysian sovereign funds and government related entities.

Azlinda is a barrister with Gray’s Inn and practised as an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia for 12 years between 1994 and 2006, before moving to the UK to re-qualify as a solicitor of England & Wales in 2007. Her strong ties into the Malaysian market are also reflected in her appointment in 2011 to Chairman of the Overseas Malaysian Executive Council (OMEC, UK), a platform network established in 1993 for building strategic business relationships and partnerships between Malaysia, the UK and Europe.

With the opening of an ASEAN-focused office in Singapore in early 2012 and the recent arrival of China expert Andrew Halper, the firm’s presence in Asia has flourished to include key clients in corporate, commercial and international arbitration. Olswang’s strong performance in Asia has recently gained external recognition with Chambers Asia Pacific ranking the firm’s India practice in its Corporate/M&A category and the Singapore office in its TMT category.

David Stewart, Olswang’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “With seven offices across Europe, one in Singapore and strong groups focussed on the Indian and Chinese markets, we have ambitious plans to extend our reach to other growth economies in Asia. We are delighted to welcome Azlinda to our international practice and look forward to working with her on new cross-border matters.”
