International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that Clare Connor Ranalli, a seasoned health regulatory lawyer, has joined the Firm’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group as a partner in its Chicago office. With this latest addition, the practice has brought on eight new lawyers and professionals advisors in the past two months – a trend being driven in part by health industry clients facing implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Ms. Ranalli, who joins McDermott from another AmLaw 50 law firm, has extensive experience providing both regulatory and transactional advice to a variety of health clients, primarily in the health provider space. She is particularly well-known for her deep experience in the area of Certificate of Need (CON) regulatory matters. CONs are required in a number of states whenever health care providers seek to expand facilities, purchase major technologies, or complete merger/acquisition activities. Demand for such work in Illinois and other states is significantly increasing due to health-reform influenced market transactions requiring CON approval. Her work also includes advising health industry organizations on fraud and abuse matters, governance, entity formation, medical staff issues, facility licensure and accreditation.
“Clare will be a strong additional resource for the Firm and its health clients,” said Stephen Bernstein, partner and International head of the Firm’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group. “With her outstanding credentials, Clare will help us further develop our hospital and health system practice and our growing practice in sub-acute care — a top priority for the Firm. We are delighted to welcome her and our other new colleagues as we respond to increased market demand for our services.”
“I am truly excited to be joining a team with unparalleled depth and experience to service health care clients in this changing environment,” said Ms. Ranalli.
Ms. Ranalli is a recognized leader in the local health care legal community having served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys. She has been ranked by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine in the area of Health Care from 2008 to 2012. Ms. Ranalli is a graduate of DePaul University Law School and a graduate of the University of Illinois.
