Fulbright Assists Supplier Wärtsilä in Transaction for New Power Plant

Fulbright recently assisted Wärtsilä, a leading global supplier of flexible and efficient power plant solutions, in their bid to supply a new 220 MW natural gas-fired power plant to Portland General Electric Company, an investor owned utility in Oregon.

The Port Westward 2 project will be powered by 12 Wärtsilä 50SG engines, and is scheduled to be fully operational by 2015. The Wärtsilä 50SG engine will help provide operational flexibility to respond quickly to variable input levels of renewable energy on PGE’s system.  The Port Westward 2 project will be one of largest Wärtsilä power plants in the U.S. and among the first to use the Wärtsilä 50SG engines.

To date, Wärtsilä has supplied power plants to developers, utilities, cooperatives and irrigation districts across the United States totaling output of more than 2,000 MW.

Legal services by Fulbright included the negotiation of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arrangements and related documentation.  Fulbright Los Angeles partner Carl Steen was the lead lawyer in this transaction, assisted by New York associate Dayna Volpe.
