Stewarts Law Establishes New International Arbitration Department

Stewarts Law, the leading specialist litigation law firm, announces today the opening of a new International Arbitration department following the appointment of Philippa Charles who joins the firm to head up the new department.

Philippa is one of the most highly regarded international arbitration lawyers in London and joins Stewarts Law from the international law firm Mayer Brown. She is praised by the leading independent legal directories for bringing common sense and leadership to her cases and her intellectual skills are described as impressive. She has built her reputation focusing on arbitration matters for over 13 years. Her recent experience includes representing a flag-carrier airline in a business-critical dispute with a major IT supplier, representing pharmaceutical companies in the resolution of high-value disputes arising out of the development and distribution of drug products, and advising an investor entity with respect to a potential investment treaty claim valued in excess of €200 million against a European government. Philippa’s experience includes claims administered by ICSID, ICC, LCIA, AAA, SCC and claims managed on an ad hoc basis.

At Stewarts Law Philippa will continue to advise on both domestic and international disputes. The newly formed department will benefit from the firm’s strategic conflict-free and international positioning.

The firm expects to repeat the success achieved in its existing litigation areas and establish a leading international arbitration practice within a short space of time. Philippa will be joined by other highly regarded City lawyers in the near future.

Managing Partner, John Cahill at Stewarts Law comments: “Philippa’s appointment and the establishment of a new International Arbitration department further strengthens our current market position as a leading litigation practice. Our strategy has been to hire only the very best lawyers to meet the needs of our clients. Philippa, with her particular expertise in international arbitration, is a very welcome addition to the firm.”

Philippa Charles comments: “Stewarts Law provides the ideal home for international arbitration. It is conflict-free and has an excellent reputation for domestic and international litigation.”
