BLP Strengthens Its Global Finance Team with Hire of Specialist Simon Baum

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) today (8 February 2013) announced the appointment of finance specialist, Simon Baum, as a Partner in the Firm’s global finance team.

Simon was previously a finance consultant at Allen & Overy (A&O) in London where he serviced a number of their international finance clients and also helped establish A&O’s debt trading practice. In particular, he has advised on numerous energy and other cross-border projects in Israel.

Matthew Kellett, BLP’s Global Head of Finance, said: “We are seeking to build a global finance team to help meet the needs of our international clients. Simon’s significant expertise and successful track record will allow us to offer enhanced finance capabilities, especially in the energy and infrastructure sectors. More specifically, our practice has already provided English law services to a host of major international projects, such as the US$S2bn financing of four deep water drill ships for Pacific Drilling.”

Simon Baum said: “BLP has global ambitions and I am impressed with the Firm’s strategy to extend its international reach. I look forward to enhancing further the breadth and depth of the finance team and working closely with my colleagues around the globe.”

BLP made a number of high profile international lateral hires in 2012 as the Firm looked to continue expanding its international offering. Nomita Nair, also previously at A&O, joined the Firm’s global finance team in Singapore in 2012. The Firm also recently hired two corporate partners – with Kyle Davies joining the Moscow office from A&O and Mark Chan joining BLP’s Hong Kong office from O’Melveny & Myers – in addition to a new contentious construction partner – David Robertson, who will join the London office.
