Irwin Mitchell Birmingham Launches Finance Team

The Birmingham office of national law firm, Irwin Mitchell, has announced the launch of its banking and finance team with the news that it has appointed three members of staff in addition to new Partner and department head, Jon Bew.

Jon, whose appointment was initially announced in July 2012, moved to Irwin Mitchell at the beginning of January 2013. He has now been joined by Solicitors Natalie Barnes and Nicola Raine and team PA Leanne Galloway. All three appointments move from Squire Sanders.

The team have a wealth of experience in acting for borrowers and lenders alike on a wide range of domestic and cross-border financing arrangements with a particular specialism in Asset Based Lending, including receivables finance, trade finance, inventory finance, equipment finance. The team has regularly advised independent specialist financiers, UK clearing banks and their subsidiaries as well as US, European lenders and borrowers.

Jon’s appointment is part of a wider strategy to develop the service offering of Irwin Mitchell to lenders and borrowers and comes at the same time as the appointment of Irwin Mitchell’s London-based national head of finance, Andrew Watson, also previously a partner at Squire Sanders. Andrew and Jon have a combined experience of over 35 years in the finance market, and are widely acknowledged as leading lawyers in this field with particularly strong reputations for the use of bespoke structures.

Jon Bew said: “We are all delighted to join the team at Irwin Mitchell, one of the most innovative and entrepreneurial legal practices in the UK. Outstanding client service is at the heart of Irwin Mitchell’s proposition and we look forward to developing the services we offer to, and building relationships with, clients with that as a foundation.”

Niall Baker, Partner and Chief Executive of Irwin Mitchell’s Business Legal Services team, said: “These important appointments once again reaffirm the firm’s ongoing strategic drive to build a leading national business legal services team.

“Jon and Andrew are recognised leaders in the non-contentious asset based lending arena in the UK and we are delighted to have this new team on board as we continue to invest in the business team, across the West Midlands and nationally.”

The new team will dovetail with Irwin Mitchell’s existing national finance team including Simon Tweedle in London and the firm’s recently appointed head of banking and finance in the north of England, Dean Gormley.
