Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that Greg Deis has rejoined the firm in Chicago as a partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and the White Collar Defense & Compliance group. Previously, he was an Assistant US Attorney in the Criminal Division of the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, which he joined in 2007 after four years as an associate at Mayer Brown.
Mr. Deis is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried over a dozen criminal and civil cases to verdict. “Greg has an excellent record of accomplishment as a prosecutor and in private practice,” said Andrew S. Marovitz, a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. “His proven skills in all aspects of the litigation process will benefit our clients and add depth to our outstanding litigation team in Chicago, particularly in the white collar arena.”
As an Assistant US Attorney, Mr. Deis was assigned to the Public Corruption section where he prosecuted numerous public officials and law enforcement officers for fraud, bribery, extortion and tax offenses, including, for example, the bribery prosecution of an Illinois state representative. His trial experience includes the month-long trial of William Cellini, a long-standing political insider in Illinois convicted of extorting campaign contributions for then-Governor Rod Blagojevich. In addition to his experience with public corruption cases, Mr. Deis prosecuted associates of the Los Zetas and Sinaloa Cartels, investigations that involved the seizure of more than $12 million and $20 million in criminal proceeds, respectively.

Mr. Deis has served as an adjunct professor in criminal procedure and trial advocacy at DePaul University College of Law. He received his JD degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating summa cum laude, Order of the Coif and as valedictorian. He began his legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Deanell Reece Tacha, Chief Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
