Heenan Blaikie Represents Capital Power in C$860 million Energy Plant Purchase

On Thursday, December 6, 2012, Capital Power Corporation (Capital Power) announced that it agreed to purchase half of the 800-megawatt natural gas-fueled Shepard Energy Centre from ENMAX Corporation for C$860 million (which includes interest during construction).

The two companies will build, own and operate the C$1.4 billion Shepard Energy Centre under a joint venture agreement. The Shepard Energy Centre will be the largest natural-gas-fueled power facility in Western Canada. Construction started in July 2011 and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.

Capital Power is a growth-oriented North American power producer headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The Company develops, acquires, operates and optimizes power generation from a variety of energy sources. Capital Power owns more than 3,600 megawatts of power generation capacity at 16 facilities across North America. An additional 595 megawatts of owned generation is under construction or in advanced development.
