DLA Piper Expands German Restructuring Practice

DLA Piper is strengthening its German restructuring practice through the recruitment of partners Dr Dietmar Schulz and Mike Danielewsky. At the beginning of the New Year, the two are moving from Salans LLP into the Frankfurt office of DLA Piper.

Dr Dietmar Schulz was previously a partner in the field of banking and finance law, restructuring and insolvency at Salans LLP. Prior to that, he had worked for international law firms in London and Munich. His expertise primarily covers the cross-border restructuring of credit risks with banks and trading with loans (non-core and non-performing) as well as advice for companies in crisis, close to insolvency. In addition, Dr Schulz advises on issues of banking law and banking supervisory law.

Mike Danielewsky was also previously at the Frankfurt location of Salans LLP, working as a partner in the field of banking and finance law, restructuring and insolvency. Before this, he had worked for international law firms in London, Cologne and Düsseldorf. His main focus is on advising international investment companies and investment banks on the acquisition and restructuring of individual loans and loan portfolios as well as on the financing of such transactions. In addition to this, Mr Danielewsky advises in the field of structured products, particularly on securitization.

“We are pleased to have recruited two recognized partners for DLA Piper who have comprehensive expertise in banking and finance law as well as in the restructuring of loans and companies,”said Dr Jan Geert Meents, Managing Partner of DLA Piper in Germany. “With the arrival of Dr Dietmar Schulz and Mike Danielewsky, we are expanding our restructuring practice and at the same time creating important interfaces to our Finance & Projects and Real Estate practice groups.”

Dr Dietmar Schulz says: “I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues and to the task of promoting the German restructuring practice. The even closer link to the internationally well-positioned banking and finance law practice of DLA Piper will certainly also contribute to this process.”

“The international network of DLA Piper offers an outstanding platform for the further development of my previous practice, particularly with respect to the global operations of my clients,” added Mike Danielewsky.
