Mayer Brown Announces Capital Markets Partner Hire in London

Leading global law firm Mayer Brown announces the hire of James Taylor as a Capital Markets partner in London. James joins from Allen & Overy LLP where he was a Senior Associate in the International Capital Markets group. The hire is part of an ongoing, global initiative to further strengthen Mayer Brown’s capital markets offering in key financial centres in Europe and across the globe.

James has extensive experience advising both issuers and underwriters on a wide range of debt capital markets matters, with particular focus on advising on equity-linked issuances, including all forms of convertible and exchangeable bonds, corporate warrants and other structured equity issuances, as well as on regulatory and contingent capital instruments.

James’s arrival in London follows the promotion of Simon Fisher as Banking & Finance partner, the hire of US, UK and German qualified Corporate & Securities partner Bernd Bohr as well as the hire of Alexandria Carr from HM Treasury as Of Counsel in the firm’s Financial Services, Regulatory & Enforcement group in London earlier this year. Other recent strategic additions to Mayer Brown’s capital markets practice in Europe include the hire from Simmons & Simmons LLP of the capital markets team led by Frankfurt partners Jochen Seitz and Peter Maier last year and the recent arrival of Dr. Thorsten Voss from BaFin, also in Frankfurt.

Dominic Griffiths, Head of Banking & Finance in London, said: “James’s appointment shows a commitment to strengthen our capital markets presence in London and Europe and we are very pleased to have him join our team. He has the skills, experience and character to fit in well.

We recently took on Bernd Bohr who has already made a significant impact since his arrival in February, advising on the full range of capital markets transactions; from multi-billion dollar SEC-registered offerings for the firm’s blue chip corporate clients to sovereign debt offerings in the emerging markets. James’s hire in London compliments that.”

James Taylor said: “In deciding to join Mayer Brown, I was particularly attracted by the firm’s global platform, extensive US capabilities and strong capital markets presence not only in more mature markets such as London, New York and Frankfurt, but also in key emerging markets such as Brazil, China and Hong Kong.

In a very uncertain market environment where regulation is more and more global and constantly evolving, Mayer Brown’s capital markets clients also benefit from a large pool of regulatory specialists and the firm’s top tier structured finance and derivatives practices and so I am delighted and excited to be joining the group.”
