Norton Rose Grows Disputes Team with Senior Patent Litigation Hire

International legal practice Norton Rose has appointed Huw Roberts as a partner focussing on patent litigation and other intellectual property (IP) rights litigation in its London litigation and dispute resolution practice. Huw joins from Allen & Overy in London.

Huw is a recognised market leading IP lawyer, with particular expertise in patent litigation having acted on a number of high profile, cross-border disputes. Huw has worked across a range of sectors, including technology, telecoms and pharmaceuticals – markets in which patents continue to drive growth.

Huw joins the Norton Rose IP team in London, which is headed by EMEA Head of IP Mike Knapper. The team also boasts IP and patent litigation specialist Jonathan Ball amongst its partners.

Mike Knapper commented:

“Huw joins us at an exciting time. Norton Rose’s IP practice is in growth mode and is set to expand to approaching 200 practitioners with the firm’s combination in June 2013 with leading US firm Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, enabling us to offer clients expert IP advice on a truly global basis. Huw’s recruitment is the latest step in the development of our European IP practice and his first rate expertise, reputation and client base will further strengthen our 3 partner, 15 associate team in London. I look forward to welcoming him to the team.”

Deirdre Walker, partner Global Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution at Norton Rose, commented:

“Huw’s arrival is highly significant for the team, and helps us strengthen an area of our disputes practice that is in increasing demand at the moment. Huw is the third significant hire we’ve had into the disputes practice in recent months, coming on the heels of Neil O’May and Liam O’Connell joining the team. These are all great litigators, and their hires are indicative of the level of work we’re doing in the UK now.”

Since January 2010, the global Norton Rose litigation and dispute resolution team has quadrupled in size. The firm now has over 500 litigation and dispute resolution lawyers in 26 locations.
