Susan Charles has joined the Chicago office of Lathrop & Gage LLP as a partner the firm announced today. Charles counsels corporate and private equity clients in a broad array of environmental matters, including business transactions, regulatory compliance and litigation.
Charles’ transactional practice focuses on identifying and assessing environmental risk in corporate mergers and acquisition and real estate development and redevelopment deals. She also has extensive experience helping property owners and developers obtain the liability protections afforded by voluntary cleanup programs in various states.
Charles litigation experience includes over fifteen years’ defending citizen suits, statutory cleanup actions and private actions for cleanup costs under CERCLA. She regularly defends clients against state and federal enforcement actions in various states under the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and RCRA. Charles received her bachelor of arts from Boston University and her juris doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
