Leading Atlanta Healthcare Attorney Tracy Field Joins Womble Carlyle

Veteran healthcare attorney Tracy Field, together with attorney Deonys de Cárdenas, has joined Womble Carlyle’s Healthcare Industry Team in Atlanta.

Field previously served as Executive Vice President of Compliance and Government Appeals for Piedmont Healthcare, Inc., a healthcare system including five hospitals, more than 50 primary care and specialty physician practices and a 900-member clinically integrated physician network. In this role, Field was responsible for compliance, privacy and information security operations.

At Womble Carlyle, Field will focus her practice on health law, including reimbursement issues and appeals, as well as HIPAA, clinical research and other regulatory issues impacting providers. Her clients include hospital systems, physician practices and others in the healthcare and life sciences industries.

Both Field and de Cárdenas have experience in clinical care and health care operations with first-hand understanding of providers’ operations and legal needs. Such experience also gives them unique understanding of healthcare clients’ businesses and challenges. With the increasing scrutiny of providers by a host of government auditors, their clinical skills and experience challenging reimbursement will help their clients manage appeals in a cost-effective manner. Field and de Cárdenas will work with healthcare clients in Georgia and throughout Womble Carlyle’s footprint in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Before joining Piedmont Healthcare in 2010, Field practiced for more than 17 years with Atlanta firm of Arnall Golden Gregory and was a Partner on the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences Team.
Field is the Past Chair of the Health Law Section for the State Bar of Georgia and served on its Executive Committee. She is a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2008. She also has served as a member of the Georgia Health Information Technology and Transparency Advisory Board and on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Strategic Local Implementation Process (GSLIP) for HIPAA. She has also been recognized by Atlanta Magazine as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Georgia.

Field earned her law degree from Emory University. She holds a masters degree in Health and Medical Sciences from the University of California at Berkley and an undergraduate degree in Human Biology from Stanford University. She is a frequent speaker and author of numerous articles on legal issues impacting the health care industry.

De Cárdenas comes to Womble Carlyle from the Compliance Office at Piedmont Healthcare, where she was Director of Government Appeals. She is a graduate of the University of Florida, with a B.S. in Nursing, and the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
