Linklaters has advised the Republic of Slovenia on its US$2.25bn sovereign bond issue. The bonds are being issued today, Friday 26 October 2012.

The deal is Slovenia’s first to be issued into the United States pursuant to rule 144A since 1996. Linklaters also advised the Republic on the related currency hedge transaction, the first time that Slovenia has entered into such an arrangement.

Linklaters has acted for Slovenia on all of its sovereign issues in recent years, including most recently the €1.5bn fixed rate notes issued in March 2011. The firm has also previously advised Slovenia on its negotiations with other eurozone member states on the model collective action clause.

The Slovenia issue is the latest in a series of Central and Eastern European sovereign issues that Linklaters has acted on this year, including Romania, Slovakia and Serbia.

Capital markets partner Keith ThomsonMike Bienenfeld (partner, mainstream corporate) and Jonathan Fried (managing associate, capital markets) led Linklaters’ team on this matter.

Keith Thomson said:

“Slovenia has been a client of the firm for a number of years, and we are delighted to have been able to assist on its latest international financing. We are very pleased that the Republic achieved its objectives.”

The Linklaters team also included capital markets partner Michael Voisin, and associate Oliver Lemesle Adams, who advised on the related swap transaction.
