Andrea Laing Joins the Blakes Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s leading business law firms, today announced that Andrea Laing has joined the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group as a Partner in the Toronto office.

“Andrea is proactive and entrepreneurial,” said Brock Gibson, the Firm’s Chair. “Having her at Blakes will strengthen our securities litigation practice and will deepen our ability to defend public issuers from class actions and other securities-related disputes.”

Ms. Laing focuses on securities and corporate/commercial litigation. For more than 12 years, she has advised a diverse range of clients facing complex litigation and has acted in major class proceedings in the areas of securities, product liability, pensions, consumer reporting and e-commerce. She also represents parties to commercial arbitrations and has advised clients facing investigations in a number of regulated industries.

Since the introduction of statutory liability for secondary market misrepresentation in Ontario, she has been actively defending public issuers against class actions premised on misrepresentation claims.

Ms. Laing frequently writes and speaks about class action developments and teaches civil procedure and advocacy. She is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association, The Law Society of Upper Canada, The Metropolitan Lawyers Association and The Advocates’ Society. She is listed as a “Litigation Lawyer to Watch” in The 2011 Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-border Litigation Lawyers in Canada.

“Andrea will be working collaboratively with our existing litigation and securities teams,” said Brad Berg, the Practice Group Leader for the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in Toronto. “We warmly welcome her to Blakes.”
