Shearman & Sterling’s highly regarded derivatives and structured products group in London has received a significant boost with the addition of James Duncan, who has considerable experience with both corporates and financial institutions.
An English law practitioner, Mr. Duncan joins the firm from Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP, where he was a partner in the Banking & Capital Markets group. Prior to that he spent almost 13 years at Linklaters where his experience included secondments at leading financial institutions.
He has extensive experience advising on structured finance transactions related to a variety of asset classes, including equity, fixed income and credit derivatives, credit-linked structured products, repos, stock lending, custody, and structured capital markets. He also has considerable experience and wide-ranging relationships with financial institutions and corporates.
“Our UK derivatives/structured products group — and, more broadly, our finance group — enjoys an outstanding marketplace reputation,” said Creighton Condon, the firm’s senior partner. “James brings to the firm deep knowledge and exceptional client relationships, and we see him as an important addition to our already impressive capabilities.”
Adds Clifford Atkins, the London-based head of global finance, “James is a significant addition to our existing senior capabilities in London at a time when regulatory and market changes are materially impacting how derivatives and structured products are viewed and dealt with by our clients.”
