Jackson Lewis Grows Attorney Ranks in Baltimore

Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce the addition of three attorneys to its growing Baltimore office. Laura A. Pierson-Scheinberg and Louis J. Cannon, Jr., formerly with Miles & Stockbridge P.C., have joined the firm as Partner and Associate, respectively, and Melanie L. Glickson, formerly with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, will join as Of Counsel. With its January 2012 addition of Stephen M. Silvestri, also formerly with Miles & Stockbridge, the firm’s Baltimore office has more than doubled in size since opening in January 2010 with a group of nine attorneys from DLA Piper.

“We are delighted to welcome Laura, Melanie and Louis to our growing Baltimore team,” said Richard Hafets, Managing Partner of the Baltimore office. “Each of these attorneys has expertise that will enhance the value we provide to our clients, and their ties to the local business and legal communities are invaluable. Our office’s growth has been driven by increasing demand for comprehensive labor and employment law services in the region, and we are pleased to be able to continuously attract and retain esteemed, knowledgeable attorneys as we continue to build upon our capabilities throughout Maryland.”

Laura Pierson-Scheinberg, who led Miles & Stockbridge’s Labor Law practice after the departure of Mr. Silvestri to Jackson Lewis, has over a decade of experience representing management with respect to traditional labor matters, including unit determinations, union elections and unfair labor practice charges. She has extensive collective bargaining experience, including serving as chief spokesperson as well as working with clients to develop effective strategies behind the scenes, and regularly assists employers with union contract compliance and grievance avoidance. Ms. Pierson-Scheinberg has represented clients in numerous arbitrations involving issues such as employee discharge, contract interpretation and other collective bargaining rights. She has also defended clients in disability, sex, race and other discrimination suits, as well as wrongful discharge and employment tort litigation.

Ms. Pierson-Scheinberg, who has been named a “Rising Star” by Maryland Super Lawyers and one of Maryland’s “Top 100 Women” by the Daily Record, serves on the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Board of Directors, participates in the United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council, and sits on the Board of Directors for Higher Achievement of Baltimore. She is admitted to practice in Maryland and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. She received her B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and her J.D. from the University of Maryland.

“I have long admired Jackson Lewis’ depth and breadth of experience in the field of workplace law,” said Pierson-Scheinberg. “The firm’s national reach and collegiality of the Baltimore office were just two of the many qualities that attracted me to the firm.”

In her prior role at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, Melanie Glickson defended the United States government in a wide range of Title VII matters. Ms. Glickson previously worked at Nixon Peabody LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where she represented companies in employment disputes before government agencies and in state and federal court. She has experience representing employers in various types of employment litigation matters, including the defense of state, federal and agency claims of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, whistleblowing, FMLA violations, ERISA and breach of contract. In addition, Ms. Glickson has drafted employee handbooks and agreements as well as severance, settlement and non-compete agreements.

Ms. Glickson is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, New Jersey, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and Rhode Island. She received her B.A. from Harvard University and her J.D. from the Boston University School of Law, where she received the Best Oralist Award in the Craven National Moot Court Competition.

Louis Cannon has significant experience representing employers before federal and state courts, the NLRB, the EEOC, the DOL, and state labor and employment agencies. He has drafted employment contracts and non-compete agreements, and regularly advises management in all aspects of labor and employment law, including the NLRA, FLSA, Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, federal and state wage and hour laws, and the FMLA.
