Husch Blackwell welcomes Scott E. Stewart as the newest Partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Stewart joins the firm’s Environmental & Natural Resources group, bringing more than 17 years’ of complex civil litigation experience, including 12 years’ experience as an environmental litigator, and a broad relationship network with key federal regulators and enforcement officials to aide in reaching sophisticated and financially sound resolutions for clients.

Now, Husch Blackwell offers a complete chain of environmental legal services including broad natural resource damage experience.”
Stewart joins Husch Blackwell from the Washington, D.C., office of AmLaw 100 firm Patton Boggs LLP (2009-2012), where he conducted civil litigation and provided compliance counseling on environmental matters arising under the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Oil Pollution Act (OPA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), among others. He also advised clients on complex natural resource damage matters arising under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), OPA and CWA, specifically on issues stemming from oil spills and mining, milling and smelting activities. In addition, Stewart counseled companies in the renewable energy and clean technology sector and assisted renewable energy facility owners on environmental permitting issues and in navigating the National Environmental Policy Act.
Prior to Patton Boggs, Stewart was a trial attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment & Natural Resources Division (2001-2009). While there, he conducted affirmative civil litigation, focusing on the control and abatement of pollution, primarily through the enforcement of federal statutes, and litigated cases under CERCLA, CWA, CAA and RCRA, among others. In addition, Stewart received two Superior Performance of Duty awards during his time with the Department of Justice. Stewart’s first position upon graduating from law school was as a litigation associate with AmLaw 100 firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, in Washington, D.C., (1996-2001), where he developed significant experience litigating environmental insurance coverage issues, among other matters.
Stewart received his J.D., cum laude, from The American University, Washington College of Law (1995). He received his B.A. from Stanford University (1990).
