Prior to Patton Boggs, Stewart was a trial attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment & Natural Resources Division (2001-2009). While there, he conducted affirmative civil litigation, focusing on the control and abatement of pollution, primarily through the enforcement of federal statutes, and litigated cases under CERCLA, CWA, CAA and RCRA, among others. Stewart’s first position upon graduating from law school was as a litigation associate with AmLaw 100 firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, in Washington, D.C., (1996-2001), where he developed significant experience litigating environmental insurance coverage issues, among other matters.
