Baker & McKenzie Further Expands its Corporate Practice

The global law firm Baker & McKenzie continues to expand its Dusseldorf Corporate practice with the hire of Ingo Strauss. Strauss, who previously worked with Hengeler Mueller in Dusseldorf, will join Baker & McKenzie as a partner in September 1, 2012.

Sönke Becker, co-head of the German Baker & McKenzie Corporate Practice Group, said, “Ingo Strauss is the perfect complement to our Corporate practice in Germany and Austria. We are very happy that Strauss will join us in expanding our practice group. As a young ambitious lawyer with extensive experience in the area of Corporate/M&A, Ingo Strauss will blend in perfectly with our team.”

Strauss worked for Hengeler Mueller for five years and for Slaughter and May in London for one year. Strauss has advised national and international enterprises in the area of corporate law/M&A, and has been involved in a number of major transactions. Among others, he was part of the team that advised private equity investment company EQT in their sale of Kabel BW to Liberty Global and the Australian Brambles group in their acquisition of the logistic service provider IFCO Systems. This year, Strauss advised South Korean energy group SK Innovation in their joint venture with Continental to develop battery technology for the auto industry. As a former German national team handball player, Strauss’ expertise also extends to sports law. For example, he advised the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga on the engagement of an investor for TSV 1860 München.

Says Strauss, “What convinced me was the global orientation of Baker & McKenzie in general, but, in particular, the dynamic development of the Corporate practice in Germany. I am very happy to become part of the successful Dusseldorf team and to be given the opportunity to shape the future development of the Baker & McKenzie Corporate practice.”

Only recently, Christoph Wolf, former Head of Legal with Morgan Stanley, and Mark Devlin, formerly of Linklaters joined Baker & McKenzie as lateral partners in Germany. In addition, effective July 2012, the law firm elected three corporate lawyers from their own ranks as partners: Christian Atzler, Dr. Michael Bartosch and Dr. Franz Leisch.
