Leading International Project Finance Lawyer Clive Ransome Joins Milbank In London

In an expansion of its international project finance team, law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP has announced the addition of prominent energy and infrastructure lawyer Clive Ransome as a partner in the firm’s Global Project Finance Group, based in London.

Clive, who joins from Linklaters, advises on major project and structured financings. His experience includes power, refinery, LNG and petrochemical projects in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Clive is based in London, and he was previously based in Asia for a number of years. He has developed significant experience working with leading sponsors as well as key multilateral agencies, development finance institutions, export credit agencies and commercials banks. Clive is highly rated by the leading legal directories and is designated in Band 1 of Project Finance lawyers in Chambers UK.

Phillip Fletcher, the practice group leader of Milbank’s Global Project Finance group, commented, “We are pleased to add such a high calibre partner to our practice. We have long known and worked with Clive in both London and Asia. There is significant activity on large-scale projects throughout the world, and Clive’s addition will enhance our depth of experience and capabilities in London to serve those projects.”

“I am delighted to be joining Milbank, which has one of the top project finance practices in the world,” Clive said. “The firm has been working on the largest and most innovative projects in a way that complements my own practice. I am looking forward to bringing my expertise to the group and to using my London base and Asian experience to continue expanding the group’s international footprint.”

Milbank’s project finance practice has long been recognised as a market leader. It was named the “Global Firm of the Year” for 2011 by Project Finance International, and it ranks in the top band of global projects and energy practices in Chambers Global. With the addition of Clive, Milbank’s London office will have more partners ranked in the top two bands in Chambers UK “Projects: London and UK-wide” category than any other law firm.

Clive is the fourth new partner to join Milbank’s London office in the past three months. In May, the firm announced the arrival of corporate lawyer Mark Stamp from Linklaters, in June, Nicholas Spearing joined from Freshfields as the office’s first competition/anti-trust partner and, in August, Neil Caddy joined from Mayer Brown to expand the firm’s leveraged finance practice. Russell Jacobs, London managing partner commented on the hires, “We are pleased to have had the long-awaited opportunity to expand and deepen our capabilities in these core practice areas over the last few months with a group of lawyers whose reputations we have respected. We remain committed to our strategy of careful growth in what we see as our key strengths as a firm.”
