This Week’s Washington BigLaw Career Moves

This week has seen the announcement of several major job changes in the nation’s capital.  Crowell & Moring has recruited tax partners Donald M. Griswold and Walter Nagel, Leonard Chanin rejoins Mofo, and John C. Richter is back at K&S.

Crowell’s acquisition brings Griswold and Nagel over from Reed Smith and includes an additional associate.  The pair bring extensive experience in state and local tax issues, including M&A, planning, litigation, and audit defense.  This legal recruitment comes closely on the heels of last month’s addition of tax controversy partners David B. Blair and David J. Fischer.

Rejoining Morrison & Foerster is partner Leonard Chanin, who was most recently Assistant Director of the Office of Regulations for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  He brings extensive financial services experience to the firm.  Rick Fischer, Co-Head of the Financial Services Practice, said, “Leonard will return to us with important insights and broad experience on consumer regulation, having been at the center of regulatory developments in a time of great change in this important area. Our clients will be well-served to have Leonard’s expertise and experience available to help guide them.”

King & Spalding welcomes John C. Richter back to its government investigations practice group.  The partner will rejoin from his position as vice president and deputy general counsel at WellCare Health Plans, Inc. on September 4th.  Richter has prior experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Georgia and Oklahoma and is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.
