Thomas O. Hoover Joins Growing Intellectual Property Practice

McCarter & English LLP is pleased to welcome intellectual property attorney Thomas O. Hoover to the firm as a partner in the Boston office. Mr. Hoover focuses his practice on patent, trademark and copyright law.

Mr. Hoover is responsible for the development and oversight of both U.S. and foreign patent portfolios for large and small corporations, universities, hospitals and venture funded start-ups. His practice includes the prosecution of patents before the US Patent and Trademark Office, patent appeals and interferences, reissue, reexamination and examination and opposition proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. He has also been involved in trade secret and patent infringement litigations. Mr. Hoover has substantial experience with medical devices and imaging technologies for surgical and diagnostic use, semiconductors and instrumentation in the semiconductor industry, electro-optic materials, optics, control systems software and communications.

Mr. Hoover began his professional career as a staff scientist researching the properties and fabrication of semiconductor materials and then in digital image processing. He earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law and his A.B. from the College of the Holy Cross. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Hoover is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Boston Patent Law Association. He joins McCarter from Weingarten, Schurgin, Gagnebin & Lebovici LLP.
