Commercial Litigator William Stute Joins DLA Piper in Minneapolis

DLA Piper today announced that William Stute has joined the Litigation practice as a partner in the Minneapolis office.

Previously a partner at Faegre Baker & Daniels LLP, Stute focuses his practice on complex financial disputes, including commercial and securities fraud, business torts, merger and acquisition litigation, and shareholder derivative and class actions. He also represents companies and individuals in investigations and proceedings involving the US Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory agencies.

“Will has an impressive track record representing prominent multinational corporations, and our global platform matches up well with the types of complex litigation and investigatory work in which his clients are involved,” said Robert Mathias, joint global leader and US chair of DLA Piper’s Litigation practice.

Stute is the latest addition to DLA Piper’s Minneapolis office in recent months. The firm also added cross-border corporate lawyer Kathleen Smith Ruhland in March and corporate finance lawyer Michael Macaluso in June 2011.

“The DLA Piper Minneapolis office is currently representing Fortune 500 and other companies in corporate and finance transactions in nearly 100 countries. In addition to being an accomplished litigator, Will Stute will expand the firm’s global practice with Upper Midwest companies doing business throughout the world,” said Alan Kildow, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Minneapolis office. “Will is also a perfect fit for us because of his commitment to community service and advancing diversity and inclusion in the Minnesota legal community.”

Stute is a member of William Mitchell College of Law’s board of trustees and a member of Minnesota CLE’s board of directors. He is the former president of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, served on the United States District Court, District of Minnesota Federal Practice Committee, and was a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s fellows program in 2011.

Stute earned a J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.A., cum laude, from Augsburg College.
