Lathrop & Gage Adds Intellectual Property Litigation Strength to National Offices

Lathrop & Gage LLP announced today that Gregory P. Casimer and John T. Gutkoski have joined the firm as partners in its rapidly-growing Chicago and Boston offices, respectively. Both will concentrate their practices in intellectual property litigation.

The firm’s IP practice handles all aspects of patent, trademark and copyright disputes, prosecutions and transactions in the United States and worldwide. The team of over 75 attorneys from California to New York includes partners recognized by Chambers USABest Lawyers in America, the BTI Client Service All-Star Team, and the World Trademark Review.

Casimer comes to the Chicago office following 14 years of litigating patent infringement cases at Niro, Haller & Niro. His extensive litigation experience in IP matters includes design and utility patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, trademark and trade dress infringement, unfair competition and unfair trade practices, copyright infringement and cyber squatting. His clients have included individual inventors, medical and high tech start-up companies, small businesses, and major manufacturers, seeking to generate revenue from their patent holdings through creative alternatives to conventional legal representation. Prior to his legal practice, he had a 13-year career as a registered professional engineer specializing in predictive hydraulic modeling and geospatial database design at HNTB Corporation.

Gutkoski brings a new capability to the Boston office as a seasoned IP litigator. His national trial practice includes serving as lead trial counsel in life sciences and high technology matters. These include cases involving pharmaceuticals, laser and tissue interaction, medical devices, nanotechnology, financial services, computer and network architecture, semiconductors, analog and digital circuitry, smart phones, and vibration control. Prior to joining Lathrop & Gage, Gutkoski served as a partner at Nixon Peabody and the Boston Office IP Chair at Foley & Lardner.

“Greg and John bring to the firm extensive experience in successfully litigating and trying intellectual property matters,” said Bill Rudy, chairman of the firm’s IP division. “They significantly augment our national practice, and bring new capabilities and strengths to our growing Chicago and Boston offices.” Lathrop & Gage has the fastest-growing IP and Life Sciences practice in Boston where John follows the recent addition of Bob Anderson and Ken Zwicker from Abbott Laboratories.
