The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP announced today that Joseph Q. McCoy and Demetrius E. Carney have joined the firm’s Chicago office as partners. Also joining them is Don O’Bannon. O’Bannon joins as of counsel in the firm’s Dallas office. They will practice within the firm’s Real Estate Client Service Group, bringing with them their Airport Concession Practice, led by McCoy and Carney.
In addition to his international airport concession practice representing airport concession operations in all facets of their business operations, McCoy has more than a decade of experience handling sophisticated real estate matters focused on negotiating and closing complex real estate, lending and business transactions. He counsels secured lenders in structuring and restructuring and documenting loan originations, and noteholders and CMBS special servicers on national note sale transactions. In addition, he represents privately held real estate companies repositioning national retail portfolios and national clients in their leasing and construction matters.
Carney has more than 35 years of experience in public finance, business and real estate government relations. Through the years, he has represented local and national developers involved with land acquisition, zoning and financing of commercial real estate developments. He currently focuses his practice on creating public/private partnerships between local government agencies and private sector clients to stimulate economic growth. He also provides guidance and counsel to airport concessionaires operating in food and beverage, news and gifts, duty free, bookstores and specialty retail businesses including: counseling on Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBE) certification issues; preparing proposals for concession operators and ACDBE partners; negotiating concession license, lease and sublease agreements; and structuring joint venture partnerships.
O’Bannon has more than 25 years of experience in litigation, business and public sector representation. He focuses his practice on providing guidance and counsel to airport concessionaires operating in food and beverage, news and gifts, duty free, bookstores and specialty retail businesses. He also advises airport authorities on compliance with the federal DBE/ACDBE regulations, the legal perimeters of race- and gender-based contracting, program development and with internal auditing procedures to comply with the Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration policies.

McCoy received his J.D. from Northwestern University in 1998 and his A.B., with honors, and A.M., from the University of Chicago in 1994. Carney received his J.D. from DePaul University in 1974 and his B.A. from Loyola University Chicago in 1969. O’Bannon received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982 and his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1979.
